Setting the Perfect Summer Table

Setting the Perfect Summer Table

Summer is here, the sun is (finally!) out and we are now able to host our friends and family in the comfort of our homes. We deserve a special setting for those long BBQ lunches and al fresco suppers. At Truffle, we’ve created looks that feel elegant without being overly formal – the perfect way to create a relaxed but sophisticated tablescape.

Whether it's a family garden brunch or sun-drenched supper, here are our key tips on how to create the perfect summer table.

Display bowls of fresh fruit: Add complementary colours with seasonal fruits. Citrus fruits can introduce some instant vibrancy while strawberries and raspberries are also gorgeous additions for summer.

Consider scent: While it’s important not to overpower or clash with the food aromas at a table, a touch of scent can elevate your tablescape. Sprigs of fresh herbs or delicately fragranced flowers are perfect for bringing a little natural perfume to the table.

Choose flowers wisely: the great outdoors is beautiful as it is so use Mother Nature to your advantage and pick greenery or flowers from your tablescape location to add to the centre of your table. If you are able, select blooms from around the garden (or forage for wildflowers) to create an easy and cost effective centrescape.

Don’t forget candles: Depending on the breeze (!) you can use elegant tall candle holders or hurricane lanterns which will protect from the wind. Place your candle holders between floral displays down the centre of the table – this will keep the table looking full and interesting (and help keep the tablecloth in place!) as the day/evening wears on.

Incorporate natural elements: Think about your surroundings and instead of paper placecards, use items that complement your scheme. Seashells, Champagne corks or pebbles can all be written on to create stylish placemarkers.

Make a statement: being outdoors doesn't mean you can't create as beautiful a look as you would in a dining room. Try to create looks that feel elegant without being overly formal. Outdoor dining often has a more laid-back feel so incorporate soft linens, floral motifs and woven seagrass to create a table that exudes relaxed sophistication.
